It felt like second nature from the first time I put hands on the Encore Pro Hunter.

T/C ENCORE® PRO HUNTER™ PLATFORM

All those prior objections melted away. The Pro Hunter is very different to the standard Encore by the number of and types of features available. The action on the Pro Hunter is an exposed hammer, break barrel single shot. These actions are extremely compact length wise, enabling you to field a shorter gun or longer barrel than you could with a different action.

This action opens by pulling the trigger guard back using the hook on the bottom of the guard.

Thompson Center's Encore Pro Hunter Review

There is no safety, but you can safely move with a round in the chamber by keeping the hammer forward. The hammer is rebounding type that will not rest on the firing pin. The hammer also swings to the left or right. The action hinges with the barrel and forestock by means on a large pin. Removing the forestock exposes the hinge pin and allows you to swap barrels. I did make use of it to trade my win mag barrel for a 7mm so that my wife could use the rifle.

Since they all cost about the same, being able to trade barrels with other pro hunter owners is interesting. The fact that the barrels are stainless, and that the action is single shot reduces the chances of getting a shot out, rusty barrel in trade. The stock is a big differentiator here and a strong reason why I chose the pro hunter over a lower priced Encore.

I went for the camo dipped version because I wanted to and have hunt with it. When I did fire the win mag with the pistol grip stock, I could feel a lot of rotation upon firing.

It torqued up and popped the barrel up. I think the thumbhole stock would do a better job of putting that recoil back into you instead of rotating on the pistol grip as it did. One thing that I kind of expected to be better on this rifle stock was all the sharp plastic edges.

The buttpad on the stock is squishy and soaks up all kinds of recoil.

It has no issue taking the kick completely out of the 7mm and cut down the sharpness on the win mag as well. By Adriel on October 22, in Rifle Reviews. Perhaps best known for their black powder rifles, they also produce centerfire, rimfire and rifled shotgun barrels. Like a lot of us, over the last few years I'd heard so much about these guns that I thought it was time to try one myself. The challenge for me was deciding which one. Even though I'd been considering this acquisition for a few years, I concluded that their relatively new Pro Hunter was an ideal option. Simply put, many of us own at least one centerfire, rimfire, slug gun, and muzzleloader.

The Pro Hunter offers everything in one accessorized package. It is arguably the most versatile, and some are saying most comfortable gun on the market today. Rather than buying four separate firearms, the Encore Pro Hunter allows the shooter to accessorize by getting interchangeable barrels all for the same receiver and stock.

The Pro Hunter integrates virtually all of the features you could ever want in an ideal gun. Ask any hunter in the know and many either want one or are contemplating buying one. It's that simple. Recognizing the incredible versatility of this gun I ordered one myself. I've since been able to test it both at the range and in the field in 7 mm Rem Mag on black bear and both 7mm Rem Mag and. Even though it is a moderately heavier gun, I have to say that I'm awestruck by the accuracy of each.

An obvious anomaly in the world of long guns, it looks and feels very different than the more common bolt action rifle. So, why is the single-shot Pro Hunter so desirable?

From what I've learned the most prominent reason is versatility; because it can be transformed into four different firearms, it's an economical option for those of us needing multiple guns. Previously designed in a manner that accommodates the switching of barrels, in recent years shooters could purchase three barrels; a centerfire, muzzleloader, and a rifled shotgun barrel.

As of this last year, TC has made a fourth available in a rimfire. I ordered mine with three different barrels: one chambered in 7 mm Rem. Although I chose to go with stainless fluted barrels, blued barrels of variable sizes are also available. The fourth option and newest addition to this model, is the rimfire barrel available in.

With a unique mono block design, the frame assembly requires no modification. In other words with this firearm and variable barrels a person can hunt every gun season, namely both the general and primitive weapons seasons where hunting is restricted to the use of shotgun and muzzleloader.Bruce Gates — December 2, With the encores you only need one shot believe me keep up the great work and Thank You again. Kevin Cox — November 27, Tee — March 17, I have a pro-hunter in stainless heavy fluted barrel.

However, it did take a little trial and error to find the right bullet my gun liked. And as it turned out the gr anything was the ticket and the gun just spit them out on the money. So with that configuration I could understand the jump. Also I noticed that I needed a longer length of pull. So, I put a custom muzzle brake screw on kind not threaded and just a Wal Mart special rubber butt pad that fit over the existing stock and pad.

Now there is no jump whatsoever and needless to say zero recoil. It is exactly like shooting my weatherby And when that happens there is no doubt that the animal is dead. I have taken many many deer with it. The furthest being yards and it fell over dead on the spot! I love this gun and will never sell it. Your email address will not be published.

All my TC barrels shoots the best groups after about 4 or 5fouling shots. Also, don't take offense, but have someone else shoots some groups to see how they shoot a group.
